CARING FOR YOUr LIVING MICROGREENS

Lucky you, you've got some of our living microgreens! Now the question is, how do you care for them? Here's a couple of quick tips to keep your micros as fresh as possible for long as possible.

Storage: On the counter or in the fridge

Dishes with a flat bottom, like cookie sheets, casserole dishes or Pyrex dishes, make excellent containers for your living greens.

Simply remove from clamshell and place in the dish with a small amount of water. Microgreens can be kept on the counter or in the fridge.

Note: For fridge storage, be sure to keep in the front of fridge to avoid freezing leaves.

Watering: from the bottom, never on top

Our microgreens are alive, and while they do not need light, they do need water to keep the roots moist. In order to get you the most bang for your buck, we plant hundreds of micros on each pad. Therefore, watering should be from the side of the micros, never directly on top of them. Watering on top can potentially cause mold issues. Water once every day or every other day. The pad should feel heavy and moist. If the pads are sticking to the plate or container, they are too dry.

is it mold or roots?

As we grow hydroponically on coconut coir pads, our microgreens' root system starts above the pad. Those tiny hairs at the base of the micros are the beginning of the root system. The roots grow through the pad to reach the water below as the microgreens grow. We typically do not see these root hairs as they are usually underground.

How can you tell if it's mold? Mold typically starts at the top of the microgreen leaves and looks similar to a spiderweb.

hOW LONG WILL your MICROS LAST?

Since we only sell locally grown, living microgreens, ours last double the amount of time pre-cut micros do. Our living microgreens typically last about 7-10 days.

Most microgreens sold in stores are pre-cut and shipped across state lines. These pre-cut microgreens usually only last 3-5 days at best and their nutrient levels are degraded as they have been harvested for days.
